About the Hyndburn Cultural Association.

The Hyndburn Cultural Association was set up in 2001 and originally operated from a small terraced house within the community. Our initial aim was to improve education standards and opportunities for children from Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other Asian backgrounds, but we have increasingly become a one-stop shop for information and advice about a wide range of issues.

This led to a need for larger accommodation, so we were very pleased to be able to move into our new Scaitcliffe Community Centre in Spring 2004. Built on the site of the old Spring Hill Primary School in Accrington, the Centre was set up as a community enterprise and received £25,000 in funding from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. It is available to Age Concern, community wardens, police community beat managers and the County Council's Youth and Community service. It is also available for hire by local community groups or for community events.

To deliver our services, we work closely with groups and organisations such as Accrington and Rossendale College, Age Concern and Springhill Network Group. These services include general advice, recreational services and the provision of creche facilities.

In addition, we also manage specific projects, such as the Child Improvement Programme, which aims to improve the educational and social development of disadvantaged children between the age of 10-13 who live within the most deprived wards of Hyndburn. The following is a list of current projects:

· Child Improvement Programme
· Volunteer Mentoring Scheme Project
· Community Education Club Project
· Community Courses and Training
· One stop shop, sign posting to agencies
